Hey! So today I just started to read “The Awakening” by Kate Chopin for my English class. This novel, first published in 1899 in America, is about a woman who is unsatisfied with her life and eventually leaves her family to go peruse her own dreams and desires. When it was first published, there was tons of criticism regarding it. It was widely condemned by most people in society because they believed it was immoral. This book was very ground breaking and seriously broke social standards. It was not printed again until 1953 in France. Now it is considered a classic of American literature.
I’m really excited to read it and will post my thoughts on it as I read.
